Mountain Dulcimer Society of Dayton Concert

The Mountain Dulcimer Society of Dayton is dedicated to preserving and sharing the music of the Appalachian mountain dulcimer. Formed in 1984, the group includes musicians from across the Miami Valley who come together to play traditional folk tunes, Celtic melodies, gospel songs, and contemporary favorites — all with the distinctive, sweet sound of the dulcimer. Concert-goers will hear both solo features and ensemble arrangements that highlight the versatility of this historic instrument.

Hayner will host the Mountain Dulcimer Society of Dayton on Friday, January 16, 2026 at 7:30 pm in the Ballroom. Admission is free, and no reservations are required.

The MDSD will host a dulcimer workshop with Mandy Tyner on Saturday, January 17, 2026. Learn more about this workshop at www.DaytonDulcimers.org

The annual Jazz in March series at Hayner is curated and hosted by jazz pianist Keigo Hirakawa, a respected improvisational artist and educator. Each year, Mr. Hirakawa invites exceptional musicians to share the stage, blending world-class artistry with community connection. The evening opens with a brief interview, offering audiences a chance to hear directly from the featured artists about their music and inspirations before the concert begins.



This year’s performance will feature the Premazzi/Nasser Quartet on Friday, March 28, 2026 at 7:00 pm in the Hayner Ballroom. Admission is free, seating is first-come, first-served, and no reservations are required.

Juneteenth Opening Celebration with Deron Bell Band

Friday, June 19, 2026 • 6:30 pm in the Hayner Courtyard

The Troy-Hayner Cultural Center, in collaboration with I.D.E.A. Troy, will host a Juneteenth Opening Celebration in anticipation of the community festival at McKaig & Race Park the following day.



Guests will enjoy a children’s art exhibit, light hors d’oeuvres, and an unforgettable concert by the Deron Bell Band, presenting The History of Funk Music in Ohio. Deron Bell shares his experiences as a young musician in Dayton — the birthplace of funk — while celebrating the rich musical heritage of the region.

Bell serves as Music Director for the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company and has performed with artists including James Brown, Bootsy Collins, Peabo Bryson, Shirley Murdock, ZAPP, The Manhattans, and Boney James. His career also includes appearances with the Dayton Philharmonic and performances at the Benjamin & Marian Schuster Performing Arts Center, the Arbogast Performing Arts Center in Troy, and the Fridays on Prouty series.
