This series offers a unique opportunity to experience professional chamber music in an intimate listening room. These free concerts take place on the last Tuesday of most months in the school year at 7:30 pm.

This series takes place in our intimate listening room on the last Tuesday of most months in the school year. There is no admission and reservations are not necessary. Our musicians often take time to share their inspirations and the reasons why the pieces they chose are important to them. Students are encouraged to attend as this is a wonderful way to experience these instruments and the music they make.

Oakwood Brass: America 250 Celebration

Celebrate America's 250th anniversary with a captivating performance by Oakwood Brass at the Troy-Hayner Cultural Center. This free concert, part of the Drawing Room Chamber Concert Series, features patriotic favorites, American folk songs, and timeless compositions from iconic American composers.

About Oakwood Brass
Founded in 2001 and led by trumpeter Eric Knorr, newly appointed Music Coordinator for the Hayner, Oakwood Brass brings together talented brass musicians with extensive performance experience. Members perform with ensembles including the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and Pops, Dayton Philharmonic, Columbus Symphony, Lexington Philharmonic, and Springfield Symphony.
The group has performed at the Troy Mayor’s Concert, High Street United Methodist Church in Springfield, and Worthington Presbyterian Church in Columbus. Oakwood Brass also serves in residence at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Dayton, performing for special holidays and joining the orchestra during May Festival festivities.
In addition to their performance work, many members are educators at institutions including the University of Dayton, University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Wright State University, Capital University, and Cedarville University.
Program Highlights

- George Gershwin’s Strike Up the Band
- A medley from the George M. Cohan library, including Give My Regards to Broadway and Yankee Doodle Boy
- John Philip Sousa’s Semper Fidelis and Stars and Stripes Forever
- American folk favorite Shenandoah
- Ragtime and jazz classics by Scott Joplin (Maple Leaf Rag) and Duke Ellington (It Don’t Mean a Thing)
Adding a personal touch, Eric Knorr will share a USAF deployment story involving the rock classic Bohemian Rhapsody, which the ensemble will perform with audience singing encouraged. The concert closes with a patriotic sing-along featuring America the Beautiful, the U.S. Air Force Hymn, the U.S. Navy Hymn, and more.
