Your Story Belongs in the Hayner Center’s 50th Anniversary Book

For 50 years, the Troy-Hayner Cultural Center has been shaped by the people who pass through its doors. We invite you to share a memory, big or small, and help preserve the Hayner Center’s legacy for generations to come.

What Counts as a “Story”?

Your story can be one sentence or several paragraphs. A favorite memory, moment, or tradition, about a performance, class, event, or quiet visit and from any decade, past or present. There’s no right way to tell it. If Hayner mattered to you, your story belongs here.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Kind of Stories Can I Submit?

Hayner has meant many things to many people — and all of those stories matter.

You might share:

  • A performance, exhibit, or class you remember
  • A celebration like a wedding, recital, or community event
  • A quiet personal moment — reading, volunteering, or visiting
  • A memory passed down through your family

Stories can be joyful, reflective, funny, or heartfelt. Formal writing is not required.

How long should my story be?

Your story can be as short or as long as you like.

  • One sentence is perfectly acceptable
  • A few paragraphs are welcome
  • You do not need to tell your entire life story

Clarity and sincerity matter more than length. If you’re unsure, submit what you have — we can help refine it later.

Do I Have to Be a Writer?

Absolutely not.

You don’t need to:

  • Write perfectly
  • Use formal language
  • Worry about grammar or structure

We’ll lightly edit submissions for clarity while preserving your voice and meaning. Think of this as sharing a memory, not writing an essay.

Can I submit photos without a story?

Yes!

Photo-only submissions are encouraged. You are also welcome to bring physical photos to the center. If you upload a photo and want to add only a brief caption or name, that’s completely fine.

If you’re unsure who is in a photo or when it was taken, include any details you remember — even guesses are helpful.

Can I submit more than once?

Yes. Multiple entries are welcome.

Is there a deadline to submit?

We encourage early submissions so our team has time to review and design layout. Collection continues through March 2026.

Will every story be included?

We will publish as many as possible, but space is limited.

Are ghost stories ok?

Absolutely, they are part of our community folklore and history.

Can organizations or groups submit stories together?

Yes. school classes, musical groups, wedding parties, event teams, and community organizations are welcome to submit group stories.

I have a story about the Library, can I share it?

A Note from the Curator

You may see two different names associated with this project, and I want to clear up any confusion right away!

In my daily role as the Marketing and Event Coordinator for the Troy-Hayner Cultural Center, I go by Brianna Adams.

However, for this commemorative book, I have chosen to use my pen name and maiden name, Brianna Booker, as the official Author and Curator.

Please know that both names refer to me—the person personally managing your submissions, conducting interviews, and compiling every photograph and story into the 50th Anniversary book. I look forward to reading your memories!
