Hayner Hits the Road invites travelers to experience two of America’s most historically significant cities in one thoughtfully curated journey.
This seven-day group trip includes comfortable accommodations, guided tours of iconic landmarks, unforgettable dining experiences, and the ease of traveling alongside fellow members of the Troy community.
From the birthplace of American independence in Philadelphia to the powerful monuments of Washington, D.C., this trip blends history, culture, and memorable shared experiences.

This all-inclusive travel experience features:
- Three nights at the historic Warwick Hotel in Philadelphia’s Rittenhouse Square
- Lodging in the historic Alexandrian Hotel in Old Town Alexandria near Washington, D.C.
- Guided tours of major historic landmarks
- Unique dining experiences at notable historic restaurants
- Visits to some of the nation’s most important cultural institutions
Travelers will experience both cities through carefully planned itineraries that balance guided exploration with time to enjoy each destination.
Philadelphia
The Birthplace of American Independence
The first portion of the journey takes travelers to Philadelphia, one of the most historically rich cities in the United States.
Guests will stay at the historic Warwick Hotel Rittenhouse Square, a landmark property listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Built in the late 1920s, the hotel blends classical architectural design with modern amenities and has hosted notable guests including Frank Sinatra, Ava Gardner, Bob Hope, and Sidney Poitier.
Historic Dining Experiences
Meals are an important part of the journey, and Philadelphia offers some truly unique settings.
Travelers will dine at Black Powder Tavern, a historic building dating back to 1746 that played a role in the Revolutionary War era and served as a gathering place for figures including George Washington and the Marquis de Lafayette.
Another unforgettable evening will take place aboard Moshulu, the world’s only restaurant located on a fully restored tall ship. Originally built in Scotland in 1904, the vessel sailed around the world before being restored as one of Philadelphia’s most iconic waterfront dining destinations.
Philadelphia Highlights
During the Philadelphia portion of the trip, travelers will visit many of the city’s most famous landmarks, including:
- Independence Hall
- Liberty Bell Center
- Betsy Ross House
- Christ Church and Burial Grounds
- Museum of the American Revolution
- Barnes Museum
- Philadelphia Museum of Art
- National Constitution Center
The itinerary also includes a visit to Valley Forge National Historical Park, where George Washington and the Continental Army endured the winter of 1777–1778.
Guests will also explore the stunning Longwood Gardens, a 1,100-acre botanical garden originally developed by industrialist Pierre S. du Pont in the early 20th century.
Washington, D.C.
Monuments, Museums, and American History
The journey continues to Washington, D.C., with accommodations in the historic Alexandrian Hotel in Old Town Alexandria. Located among cobblestone streets and beautifully preserved historic buildings, the hotel reflects the character and charm of this waterfront district.
Memorable Dining
Evenings in Washington feature distinctive dining experiences including:
- Jula’s on the Potomac, a waterfront restaurant known for panoramic views of the Potomac River
- Tony & Joe’s Seafood Place in historic Georgetown with views of the Kennedy Center and Roosevelt Island
- Portofino Restaurant, a beloved Italian restaurant opened in 1955 by the Michelis family
Washington D.C. Highlights
The Washington itinerary includes many of the nation’s most recognizable historic landmarks:
- Arlington National Cemetery with tram tour
- Guided tour of the U.S. Capitol

- Exterior of the Supreme Court
