There’s a whole world of genealogy resources beyond Ancestry.com — and many of them are completely free. In this popular class, you’ll learn how to explore high‑quality online tools that can help you uncover your family’s story, day or night. New records are added constantly, making this one of the most exciting times to dive into genealogy research.
We’ll explore specialized websites that focus on:
- Specific geographic regions and local history
- Ethnic and cultural heritage
- Occupations, military service, immigration, and more
- Genealogy‑focused search engines and curated web portals
You’ll also learn practical techniques, including:
- How to filter Google results to find genealogy‑specific information
- How to use Google to locate photos of ancestors
- How to determine whether someone is actually related to you or just shares a similar name
