The Cotner-Hayner Annex

The Friends of the Hayner organization is pleased to announce the opening of the Cotner-Hayner Annex. This space was purchased for the benefit of the Troy-Hayner Cultural Center and is available at no cost to Troy’s non-profit and community groups. It is located behind the Hayner at 22 North Short Street. There are two large rooms that have been renovated especially for community youth groups to meet. In addition, there is a nice room for more formal business meetings with a large table and coffee station.

The Annex is a Craftsman-style home built in 1921, shortly after the Hayner Mansion was built in 1914. It was built by Miami County Sheriff Mont. C. Spillman. It served as a family residence from 1921 to 1990. John M. Cotner and Cheryl B. Cotner purchased the home in 1990 from the Sheriff’s daughter, who had lived there most of her life.  It then became the Law Offices of John M. Cotner, Esq. for 31 years. The purchase of this property was made possible by a generous donation from the Cotner family as well as funds donated by the community to the Friends of Hayner, Inc.

The Friends of Hayner Trustees wanted the building to be a comfortable place for youth events, so some renovations were necessary. A generous grant from The Troy Foundation was given to assist with the new ideas. New windows, new flooring and roofing were installed as well as the opening of some walls and fresh paint all around. Renovation on the property began in February and the Annex is now open for business.
