Instructor Dana Leonard
Students are invited to spend the week creating art works surrounding the theme of FOOD. Each of the four days we will look at different artists who love food, while discovering ways in which students can build artistic skills in drawing, coloring, painting, pottery-making, and more. On the final day we will celebrate with ice cream sundaes! Come a few minutes early for pick-up that day to see a showcase of the students' work for family and visitors.
Dana Leonard received a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from Ohio University in Art Education. She taught Art at various Troy City Schools for 6 years, until her first child was born in 2012. Dana is a homeschool mom of three children: ages 13, 11, & 7. She has been teaching private art lessons and homeschool co-op art classes for the past 10 years. Dana is also the Hayner Center's Homeschool Art instructor. In her limited spare time, Dana Leonard loves to paint.

1st - 6th Grades
Instructors Gabbie Braun & Laura Cantrell
Artists are invited to spend the week celebrating all things inspired by FOOD. Campers will work alongside art instructors, Miss Gabbie and Miss Laura, to create “scrumptious” masterpieces replicating artists’ favorite foods! Artists will explore all aspects of the visual deliciousness of food through painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramic and more! We are offering 4 creativity-filled sessions of Summer Art Day Camp over 2 weeks. We are highlighting the talents of different age groups with respective session times. Every camp session is Monday - Thursday. At the end of camp on Thursday, there will be a mini-art show featuring each artists’ creations.
Gabbie Braun was raised in Troy, attending Troy City Schools kindergarten through twelfth grade, graduating from THS in 2006. From Miami University she earned a bachelor's degree in art education as well as a bachelor's of fine arts in printmaking and painting. Miss Braun has been teaching in her hometown of Troy for 14 years; she spent the first seven years of her career teaching art to the children of Kyle and Forest Elementary schools and now she is in her seventh year of teaching 7th-grade art at TJHS.
Laura Cantrell has been an art teacher at Troy City Schools since 2009. She has a bachelor’s degree in art education from the University of Dayton and master’s degree in modern art history, theory, and criticism from Azusa Pacific University. She grew up in Centerville, Ohio and has lived in Troy since 2006. Mrs. Cantrell has been the 8th-grade art teacher at Troy Junior High school for 14 years. For the past seven years she and Miss Braun have enjoyed working with middle level learners and building a reputable art program together at Troy Junior High School. |
