The Foyer
Picture
The wallpaper is the same paper that Mrs. Hayner chose for the great hall and foyer when her home was built. The pattern is "El Dorado" and was orginally imported from France. Although the original wallpaper is long gone, the House Committee located the last remnants of the original paper from a distributor in New York and pieced together enough to cover the Foyer. An art conservator painted the leaves over the front door to complete the scene. This is the same wallpaper you will find in the Diplomatic Reception Room at the White House. The Renaissance-style arm chairs, settees and floor lanterns are original to the house. Although not original to the house, the wicker furniture on the porch is of the period of the house.
The Troy-Hayner Cultural Center is supported by the taxpayers of Troy and the generous donations of the Friends of Hayner. The mission is to preserve and maintain the Hayner mansion as a cultural resource center for the present and as a historical legacy for the future generations of the community of Troy, Ohio.
