Clay for Kids

Four weeks...four projects! These are handbuilding classes for small hands. Slab, pinch, and texturing techniques will be used to form some really fun and imaginative projects including: Textured Bird House and Bird, Leaf Bowl, Turtles! Turtles! Turtles!; and Creating Animals in Clay. Register for individual classes or the whole series. Impress your personality into your own design.

• Textured Bird House and Bird - Monday, February 27
• Leaf Bowl - Monday, March 5
• Turtles! Turtles! Turtles! - Monday, March 12
• Creating Animals in Clay - Monday, March 19
• 4:00 to 5:30 pm
• Fee: $ 25; all supplies included

Beginning Clay Studio
Are you looking for a way to learn new skills or just find something new and exciting. Join us in the clay studio to make wall masks, pinch pots, plant wall pockets, garden fountains and anything else you can design. No experience necessary; just a little imagination and the desire to have fun. This class will use hand building techniques including the use of the slab roller, traditional coil building, and wheel throwing.

• Ages: Adult
• 8 Tuesdays beginning February 28 or April 24
• 6:00 - 9:00 pm
• Fee: $ 85 plus $ 40 supply and firing fee

Beginning Pottery Wheel
This class focuses on the skills needed to throw clay. Students will learn to center, cone, pull, thin walls and shape the clay. You’ll will also be trimming the vessels, and if you wish, applying sprigs as decoration. Pieces will be cleaned for firing; no glazing.

• 4 Mondays beginning February 6 or March 5 or April 2
• 6:30 - 8:30 pm
• Fee: $ 90 plus $ 25 supply and firing fee

Mud Therapy Studio Clay
Time for students to hone their wheel throwing skills and work in a supportive environment. This class focuses on putting a project together- throwing, altering, design concept,combination forms, and glaze. Projects include a functional casserole with lid and knob and surface tension; sgraffito serving platter with handles; and carved vase with lid. Instruction on individual projects made available for beginner level potters. The studio is available for your use when it is not scheduled for other classes. This is a real advantage for those of you who need to practice but do not own a wheel. We respectfully ask that you be responsible for your own clean up. Instructor has discretion as to number and size of pieces that can be fired outside of class projects. The Hayner pottery studio is not a production studio.

Payment must be received to guarantee spot in class. Payment is due one week
prior to the first class meeting. Your payment is your guarantee to hold a
spot in a class. Payment can be made by check or money order made payable in
the instructor's name or cash.

Partial financial assistance is available for
