Art Day Camp for Kids
"The Great American Art Camp!"

Children are invited to spend the week being artists, working in many different media. Campers will work alongside art instructors, Carol Bellas and Dawn Flory, creating terrific pieces of art.
Children should bring a packed lunch each day. Family and friends are invited to the day camper’s art exhibit reception on Thursday evening from 7 - 8:00 pm.
Class sizes are limited to ensure quality instruction time. A total of 90 students for all three weeks can be accomodated.
Registration Day:
The registration of children for the 2009 summer art day camps will be determined through a lottery-style registration to ensure the process is completely fair and equally accessible for every potential participant. Come to the Hayner Center Monday, May 11 at 7:00 pm to take part in the lottery. You will be asked to fill out a registration form (One per family. Sorry, friends cannot be drawn together) and be prepared to make payment if your registration is drawn. Registration with payment is required and secures your child’s place in camp. Checks should be made payable to the Troy-Hayner Cultural Center.
After registration day, telephone, mail, walk-in and website reservations will be taken if spaces are still available.
Partial financial assistance is available. Application forms will be available May 11.
UPDATE: The registration lottery was held on Monday, May 11 and all ninety camp spots are currently full. If you would like to be put on the waiting list, please complete the registration form below and indicate which week(s) you are interested in. If spots become available, you will be notified.

Preschool Mermaid Camp
Join us for a magical journey under the sea! Based on the book Dear Mermaid by Alan
Durant and Vanessa Cabban, students will explore the magical world of mermaids and magic. Along with mermaid songs and ocean themed yoga, the children will create enchanting crafts that include a mermaid purse. Our third day will end with a special mermaid tea party. All of the activities are linked to the Early Learning Content Standards. Make checks payable to Tiffany Wall.

Dragon Dreams
Join us on this magical journey through dreams where dragons await! Meet a child who has found a special stone that takes him to the world of dragons. Nature Exploration Art for Kids
We’ll be going outside and using the elements of nature for inspiration of colorful and organic artwork. A variety of materials and processes will be explored, while enjoying the beauty only found in nature and creating original landscape-oriented art. Children will enhance their artistic skills, creativity, and appreciation for the natural environment in Hayner’s courtyard. If it rains, we’ll relocate inside the art studio.

Splash Art Workshop
Back by popular demand with all new projects this summer, this class will thrill children with creative, energetic, messy projects, and the best part is that you won’t have to clean any of it up! Each week will center on the exploration and creation of art from a different culture. We’ll be using a variety of materials, supplies, and processes, while employing ancient and modern techniques to make unique and culture-oriented art. This class will be jam-packed with interesting activities, techniques, and cultural investigations.

Colored Pencil for Kids
Get to know the exciting medium of colored pencils and tools in the first session of this class. In the second session, students will work on and complete a project to take home. Parents and guardians are welcome to observe. Fee includes supplies.

Colored Pencil
This is an on-going class for new students as well as those students who have colored pencil experience. New students should register with the Hayner before attending their first class. You will be provided projects and instructed in techniques needed. Returning students should bring their own photo. Help will be given for choosing colors. (Pencils will be chosen for new students during class; average cost-$ 20.) Hone your skills as you create a realistic portrait, landscape or still life.

Beginning Drawing
This class is an introduction to the fundamental expression in all the visual arts - drawing. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced artist continuing to search for means of expression, this course will help you on your way. We will use a variety of drawing media while learning to measure proportions, use shading, and vary drawing marks. Students will work from a still life arrangement in the art studio. Intermediate Watercolor
If you have taken a watercolor class at least once; come join us! This class operates “off the cuff” as Donna responds to “what students want to see next week.” This class is all about YOU. You can work from Donna’s still life choices/photos/books/demo, or bring in your own. As she works alongside you, Donna paints in various water media (transparent &/or opaque watercolor, gouache, & acrylic or mixed media). She uses the Stephen Quiller palette and colors to produce exciting and colorful compositions. See samples of her work at www.donnapierceclark.com. Papermaking For Beginners
With almost everything being “green” today I am excited to show you how to use everyday items like junk mail, grass, and flowers to make beautiful handmade paper in just 3 minutes! In 23 years of experience, I have found you can never run out of creative materials to throw in your blender to create a work of art. Whether you are an advanced crafter or a novice, you become an instant artist just by remembering to put the lid on the blender! Wild flowers can also be added to grow your “paper” as well! Cast Paper Molds
Cast Paper Molds will instantly add a touch of elegance to any project. In this class, we will be using cotton linter, various bisque clay molds, chalks and embossing powder to make beautiful embellishments for gifts and cards. Metal embossing will be used as well and includes a patina painting technique to make your project have a beautiful aged look. Quilting - Circular Patchwork
Orange Peel, Cathedral Window and Rob Peter to Pay Paul are all circular quilts that some ladies think are beyond their ability. With the “Sew and Fold” technique, anyone of these quilts can be achieved quite easily. With this technique your project is pieced and quilted at the same time, so when you are finished, the project is done.

Quilting - Border Print Patchwork
Using border print fabric, you can cut mirror image pieces. When sewn together to create squares, triangles or diamonds, these pieces will enhance a regular quilt block to another level. It is like creating your own piece of fabric for the center of a quilt block.

Quilting - Hand Applique
Using different hand applique techniques, we will work on a small wall hanging. We will use needle turn applique, freezer paper technique and make bias stems. Applique is a great take-along project when you’re always on the go.

Beading on Leather (Amulet Bag)
Learn the meditative practice of bead on leather. In this class you will learn how to use your hand as the template to create a beaded medicine or amulet bag. Medicine bags/amulet bags are common to all cultures on every continent and are as important today as a means of healing, as any time in history. In this class you will also learn how to select an amulet or items to enhance your personal spirituality, awareness and ability to heal yourself. Supplies included.
